Alfalfa planted for trial, 1 month old in fore, other planted 1 year ago in January and cut in June. It was irrigated 3 times. I found no tubercles on the roots. Could not make a thorough search, since I had no shovel. [Shantz travel journal, Dec. 26, 1919]
