Description:
General view in orchard - marches, Wash. navel - volunteer, seedlings. Went to the farm of G. J. Fourie at De Kron - a fine orange ranch, trees in excellent color, no sign of frenching or mottled leaf. Trees irrigated about 4 times and plowed about 9 days after irrigation - spring harrow used just after plowing. They are given kraal mus or manure about every third year. Some trees 6 years without any fertilizer. But he plows under green manure whenever he can get it up - uses weeds and cow pea. [Shantz travel journal, Oct. 14, 1919]
